EXPERIENCE
Mr.
Charton worked in Washington, DC from 1993-1999 before
returning to Arkansas for a career in law.
He served as Legislative
Assistant to U.S. Congressman Marion Berry, handling
agriculture, trade, foreign affairs, and defense, among many
other issues. While on staff for the Congressman, Mr. Charton served on a
United States Environmental Protection Agency task force for
pesticide re-registration.
Prior
to employment with Congressman Berry, Mr. Charton served as
the Political Manager
for the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association.
He served as the initial and primary contact for
candidates running in federal elections.
Mr. Charton provided political analysis for National
Cattlemen’s magazine’s special election coverage.
While with the Cattlemen, Mr. Charton designed and
implemented independent political advertisements for
congressional candidates in key races targeted by the
industry.
In
his last two years with Catlett & Stodola, PLC,
Mr. Charton has assisted the firm’s clientele using his
thorough understanding of the government processes and
participants. His
drafting skills and experience have been utilized in
innumerable instances, from preparing ballot initiatives, to
drafting municipal ordinances, to drafting planks of a
political party platform, along with the more traditional
legal documents. In
2002, he taught legal writing during a seminar and received
the highest marks given by those attending the day-long event.
In addition to drafting and research, Mr. Charton has
been assisting one of our municipal clients by serving as its
part-time prosecutor.
